Professor Geller

Name: Geller
Age: Very
Occupation: Commandant Sha’Mad Conde facility

Geller is most notable for being the inventor of the Geller Field, a kind of radiation which neutralises mutant powers. It also shields the occupants of ships who use subspace or hyperdrive travel. A Geller Field is also employed in Quantum Tunneling machines. Geller was one of the researchers who worked on the crashed Krell ships and on the team that discovered that if Krell Slipspace technology was used with a human crew, they would all be dead upon exiting subspace. He worked on a technological solution whilst assigned to the computing team. The Geller Field generator is expensive and difficult to make, the process cannot be automated, and it consumes rare resources. Despite the Geller Field being safe technology, those who are exposed to it for prolonged periods become attractants for … certain extra-planar entities when outside of the field. The Geller Generators have been refined and redesigned over the years, but the same basic principle and methodology remains at the core. Geller received massive attention in scientific circles and the adulation of his peers. Although he created many other devices, and helped in a large amount of Krell based discovery, the secret nature of his work meant he never received the formal adulation and awards in the public eye.

His personal life is [REDACTED]

Professor Geller is a kind seeming old man who has been given a nice low demand position of respect as he heads towards the grave. Despite his ageing body his mind is still razor sharp and he insists he still has much to offer.

Professor Geller was based largely on Dumbledore and Gandalf … So Gandalf and Gandalf. I wanted a wise old man who will allow others to make mistakes so they can learn from them, but if asked will advise the best he can. I also wanted him to have serious hard core practical talents, so I made him the guy who invented the Anti-Mutant field, at the end of his long career. Also because I somehow ended up with Snape on staff… I still don’t really know how that happened. I wanted a figure of authority and power who didn’t need to hurl mountains around and be overtly powerful. Someone who could be negated easily if needed. Early on I visualised Maximillion Schell as he appeared in The Black Hole, but quickly realised that look was too sinister, so I eventually settled on the mental image of Richard Harris, looking kind of like he did in The Field. But if you want to picture Dumbledore, you go right ahead.

Professor Maldret

Name: Maldret
Name: Crowley, Aiegor
Name: Draper, Hew
Name: Scot, Michael
Name: Yggsana, Ragnar
Race: Mutant / Caucasian-American
Age: Seems to be old ish.
Occupation: Professor

Maldret is a teacher and scholar of great use to the DMV, he is a master of interpersonal skills, and leading scholar in Enhanced Interrogation Techniques. The highest ranked member of the DMV in terms of his annual review scores, always scoring a near-perfect score. Considered a bellwether for intra-department politics as he always picks the winning side, when he picks. Most factions are smart enough to leave him well alone.

Maldret oversees his own department of assistants and researchers, a team of thirteen young women who have promising futures, we are told.

Maldret currently serves as the Dean of students, Master of Interrogative studies and master of history. He is registered as a mutant, but we do not know what powers he possesses.

Not much is known about Maldret’s past or origins, he comes from England and is well travelled..

I deeply regret using the name of an NPC from D&D and changing one letter. Eventually. The two are so different. Maldred dresses in black and tells people what to do, whereas Maldret… is… completely different. Maldret was supposed to be the crusty dean stand-in, I wanted someone cruel and sadistic, but also trying in his way to make the students better. I wanted … well, what I am hedging around here is I wanted Professor Snape, without actually having that thought in my head. On game night he was… just suddenly my awful Alan Rickman impression. I don’t know why, the players liked it so, it stuck. The obvious implications are that he is a magician, an ancient wizard. I have always been vague about what his powers are, and whether or not he is actually a mutant. Everyone seems to like the Professor here, this is not by design, I have no idea why, and probably never will. So, no information or hidden secrets here. Nope!

Mistress Astoria

Name: Astoria
Race: Mutant / Caucasian-American
Age: 35
Occupation: Professor
Status: Single
MA-AOE-22, Euclid

Mistress Astoria is a strong psychic and teaches psionic defenses to the whole class and other psionic things to other psionic students. Grew up in Boston, the daughter of wealthy socialites, who disowned her when her powers manifested. She spend the subsequent time using her mental abilities to trick people, but eventually grew tired of it, growing wearing of hearing the truths behind peoples lies. She took work in a … club … which catered to a specific clientele, eventually leaving that work and applying at the DMV, where she served in the Los Angeles field office, before moving into a training role. Astoria remains distant from other staff and students, and lives on site.

Mistress Astoria was named after Dark Astoria from City of Heroes, she is distant and dark, mysterious. I made her a busty sexy teacher type because she was the psychic. I don’t have good reasons. I just did it. In the same way that Major Tom is neither a Major nor a Tom. I guess it is good to tease Roxanne with.

Asta & Tera

Race: Mutant / Caucasian-Americans
Age: 25
Occupation: Powers Trainers
Status: Single
Asta: RA-AOE-3329, Euclid
Tera: AOE-PB-3666, Euclid

Twins, an energy blaster and an elementalist. They are eager to prove useful, and proficient at their jobs with high empathy and energy levels. The two would have little opportunity in civilian life.

I have little to say about these two, I needed trainers, I made them. In hindsight I don’t need them at all. So I made that awareness of their limited use a part of their character. I try to embody the staff member that knows their on the chopping block once the company shake-up comes. … Yes, like me. Well done.

Helena Frost-Bayer

SA-PB-MA-45
Name: Frost-Bayer, Helena
Race: Mutant / Caucasian American
Age: 40
Safe
Occupation: Teacher

Helena is a teacher, social skills procedures and such, refined and purposeful she aims to install a degree of propriety in her charges. Helena is American Born of German / French ancestry. She grew up in a very well off family, and entered government service to avoid real work.

Helena came about because I needed a “not powers” teacher, so I made one. I wanted a stern authority figure, one who could exude class and civility, importantly I didn’t want a physically imposing person.

Doctor Abominus

Safe
Occupation: Medical Practitioner

Doctor Abominus is a non localised intelligence which requires a host body to function and survive, the presence of the mind restores the body over time, however excess time spent in any single body will deteriorate the body. Thusly Abominus keeps a selection of host bodies at hand, and swaps between them frequently. Due to the principles of morphic resonance the Abominus mind seems to alter personality traits to match the body it inhabits. Abominus is ahead of the pack when it comes to medicine and treatment of mutants, and with access to the right technology has brought nearly dead mutants back to life.

Doctor Abominus came about because I didn’t want to be limited to one medic archetype, I wanted to be able to bring the students back from severe damage, but went way too far with it. Need to reel that back in, but that might be difficult. It may be necessary to kill off one to establish the limits.

Professor Angstrom

PB-SMA-28
Name: Angstrom, Stanley
Race: Mutant / Caucasian American
Safe
Occupation: Teacher

Angstrom is a knowledge siphon, able to absorb a specific knowledge on contact. He is devoted to helping the gifted shape their futures and explore their passions, in learning. Angstrom has watched his friends and colleages leave and die, and is now alone. He keeps himself a little distant because of this.

I recast Angstrom for season 2, he want from a generic teacher model to a sort of Stan Lee homage. In terms of enthusiasm and tone. In a lot of ways this teacher makes the others less useful.

Sergeant John Harris

RE-SA-1
Regeneration, Statistic Augment
Name: Harris, John
Race: Mutant / Caucasian American
Age: 23 (March 10, 1934) (79)
Safe
Occupation: United States Army Sergeant / Instructor

Sergeant Harris grew up in Tennessee, his father was a farm hand, mother a housewife. He helped out on the farm and was taught his letters and numbers at home. Farm life helped him grow up big and strong, and with a pleasing familiarity with guns. His father sent him to highschool when he came to that age, and he proceeded from there to the Army, where he stayed.

Harris discovered he was a mutant in 1952 following an attack by time travelling agents from the 2013 DMV, not that DMV, the other one. His mutant ability has nothing to do with his American Soldier’s constitution and honed accuracy, but rather he has the ability to rapidly heal from injuries. This also seems to have slowed his ageing. Harris will never forget the lovely breasts used to tempt him from his truck, and has a heightened sense of that kind of trap, which saved several soldiers lives in Vietnam honeypot trap scenarios. Later when mutants became second class residents in the United States, he was able to keep his job as he was already enlisted in the Army. He currently serves as the range instructor for the Sha’Mad Conde DMV facility in Nevada, as a part of the Army detachment providing security.

His father died in the 90s, his mother not long after. There are only a dozen people he went to highschool with still alive.

Harris was a pre-existing non mutant character, until an NPC in a time travel mission succeeded brilliantly against an ambush by the PCs, they wanted him to be a mutant, so he is now. But his mutancy had nothing to do with his success. Harris has been the DMV range instructor for a while, when the Cleric is not doing that duty. Harris did not even have a name for the longest time, being referred to as “Instructor” or “Sergeant” I guess he needs a character now. We’ll see...
