Jen was originally an NPC created to be Alexander Hamilton Purcell’s girlfriend and co-investigator. A girl next door type, her initial personality was pretty superficial, filling in the “Are you a superhero? Oh no what if they find out” stereotype. Naturally When DMV became a thing I needed NPCs, and I already had this one. so… yeah. That’s the whole of it really, I needed an NPC and re-using one is easier than creating one whole cloth.
I used her to examine the “every-girl” reaction to discovering mutancy. It ruins your life. Her family abandoned her, her friends turned their back. The game is already full of examples of people who have powers and react “cool!” which is anomalous for the setting. So Jen became my exemplar of that. It also gives the players something to do. Help another work through it. Jen became obsessed with guns because a player suggested them as a life-ring to cling to. The feeling of protection which comes from owning and learning how to use a firearm stops her from feeling constantly endangered and helpless. She discovered, through rolls, that she quite likes guns, and moreover was quite GOOD with them, and it became a part of her way of life.
Currently Jen is the longest lasting Keter Mutant without incident in captivity.
