Harm started out as an MMO character I made called “Arctica” a wind Ice blaster with low level super strength and sky surfing (on an ice board) Think Iceman meets Namorita. I wanted an Atlantean that people would think initially was a mutant, a … wait for it… FISH OUT OF WATER! … I’ll show myself out.
I named her Harmony because of her aggressive confrontational nature, and Heca because I needed a second name with an H, so I could call her H2O. I used Logain’s sister’s name. Because. I wanted Harm to be a window into Atlantean ways, She is a runaway from an arranged marriage, and at-tainted with the title “Abomination” because she was engaged in a female-female relationship. My plans changed pretty quickly during the first few sessions, and I realised I wanted to do something else with my pointy eared princess. Her relationship with Tom was unplanned at the start, I saw them hating each other and resenting their enforced co-living. I came to understand them better over the first few sessions, and … changed my mind. But I waited for the players to indicate what they were expecting before I pulled the trigger. Everyone loves a love story.
The character template was originally intended for a AD&D character, being a Warrior who was a water elf. I repurposed the design, but it is interesting that the character appeared in the Wrestling LONG before it appeared in either game. With the old inside joke of “Oh look, Ken, it’s your wet dream.” Because she’s… always surrounded in water?
Harm is one of the least liked characters in the game, I understand that, she’s standoffish, unrelatable and abrasive, but I enjoy her a lot, and not just because she’s a shredded blonde wearing almost nothing. Harmony is a growing up story, about a person who rebelled in their youth coming to the understanding that the elders were right, not about everything, but about a lot of what they rebelled against. It’s about accepting societal values, and choosing which ones to reject, something young people don’t do well. Hence modern degeneracy.
Also it is fun to not understand metaphore.
